What is TEYL?
TEYL = Teaching English to Young Learners
We define young learners as children aged six to twelve, but the course
has also proven to be beneficial for those who teach very young learners or teens.
Our CertTEYL is designed for those who teach English overseas
(EFL or ESOL); however, we've had
a great response from ESL teachers in English speaking countries as well.
"I highly recommend this course for
any ESL instructor who has a true passion for teaching
children." An American ESL Teacher in

Success Stories
Gregory Bracco - American ESL teacher in South Korea.
Listen to Mr. Bracco read his testimonial:
I found the course to be very enjoyable.
It really gave me a solid foundation of the many facets of
teaching English to young children.
The reading required for the course conveyed many of the
reasons why children learn the way they do and also provided
me with a better grasp on how to put the material into action
through my teaching style.
Before taking the course I had taught in Asia for three
years and have always had some reservations about my teaching style.
But upon completion of the course my previous reservations have
been washed away with the help of the knowledge I gained through the course.
Raigan Bastianoni-Stoerzer - American ESL teacher working in Germany. She obtained her Master's degree in TESOL from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

I already have a MA TESOL and this course was precisely what I
needed in order to move into the field of teaching children.
Much of the linguistic and second language acquisition material
was already familiar to me but I benefited greatly from the units
which highlighted the teaching of children, and their emotional
and intellectual development.
The practical suggestions for the classroom were invaluable,
and it helped to be able to consult with my tutor on a professional
level and ask his advice concerning the course as it progressed PLUS
ask for his advice in regards to incidents which occurred in my YL classroom.
I highly recommend this course for anyone who wants a challenge
and the opportunity to improve themselves professionally.
Kathy Daxon - American - Recently returned from teaching in Hong Kong.
This course is wonderfully thought out. The
TEYL site is user friendly and your tutor is easy to get in contact with.
There is so much valuable information available that can be used in the classroom.
I highly recommend this course to anyone that is interested in, or already teaching
ESL to children.

and answer any questions about the course or classroom teaching.

A Message from our Head Tutor
I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to write this message because I think that
our CertTEYL is the best course of its type available.
About a decade ago I owned a language school in Portugal; the
teachers at my school were very open to any form of professional development.
Some of the teachers had been teaching English to children for years, but they still wanted
to improve themselves and to make sure that they were doing things correctly.
At the time, there were not many options for professional development
for those who specialized in teaching ESL to children.
Together with a group of
dedicated teachers, Advanced Teacher Training decided to venture out on their own to provide
an independent course that would address the needs of English teachers around the globe.
What has surprised me the most about working as a course tutor is the
willingness of course participants to try new ideas and approaches in the
classroom.
Course participants demonstrate a high degree of intelligence, caring, sincerity, and
professionalism. It is a pleasure working with teachers to complete the course.
Our dedicated team of course tutors is ready to serve all of your professional development needs.
Sincerely,
Nuno Dias

Are you respected as a language teacher?
Most of us "stumble" into the ESL industry
completely unprepared.
Some people teach because they need the job or because they want a chance
to travel. No matter how they entered the field, most language teachers grow to truly love their jobs.
You must be a certified expert in your field if you want to be respected as a
professional teacher by your
peers, by your employers, and by your students.
Our certificate is not just a piece of paper; as a successful CertTEYL
graduate, you will know that you are a true professional.
The demand for English language teachers is very high. In South Korea, Taiwan, Japan,
and China private language schools hire teachers year round.
Schools hire year round because there is a very high turnover rate in the industry.
Most people who want to teach overseas take a very short "starter course",
hop on a plane, and are immediately faced with a classroom environment that they
are completely unprepared to deal with.
Weekend courses try to make you into an INSTANT teacher and you will soon realize
that you are in big trouble!
With our CertTEYL program you will be prepared from the start!
On your first day in the classroom, you will already have the knowledge, skills,
and confidence you need to succeed and ENJOY your job.
Most countries will accept you as an English language teacher with absolutely
NO training and NO qualifications!
This is true! Why would we tell you this when we are in professional development business?
The main reason is that our course graduates often tell us, "I wish I had done
this course at the beginning of my career!"
You can save money and take a quick and cheap course, but if you survive the
first year in the industry, you will be running back to take our course. Do the smart thing
sign up for our CertTEYL course now!
